Optimizing Your Investment In Serena Dimensions CM

"Product Portability"

Dimensions CM administrators have always had, and to this day continue, to deal with the issue of developing new product control plans in a development/test environment, only later to be required to reenter their entire control plan again, manually in their test environment and, yet again manually in their production environment. Prior to Verion 8.x it was a completely manual effort using the Dimensions CM Administration Console. Since 8.x they have been able to use the DMPMCLI scripting language, after learning the Java Scripting language. But the DMPMCLI has its own set of significant and often undocumented problems. Dimensions Administrators have been asking Serena to provide Product Portability functionality in Dimensions CM for many years, but to no avail.

In response to a client's critical need for this functionality, Lovell & Mercier developed its own Product Portability tool. This on-line interactive tool is actually an interface to Dimensions CM, and it "ports" an entire Product Control Plan from one Dimensions CM Base Database to another existing Dimensions CM Base Database. The interface generates all of the DMPMCLI and DMCLI needed to port the entire Product Control Plan, including Request Types, Item Types, Lifecycles, Attributes, Rules, Roles, Privileges, etc. The tool is unique in that it utilizes Lovell & Mercier's proprietary "L&M DMPMCLI Function Library", which will also be demonstrated during the presentation. The L&M DMPMCLI Function Library significantly reduces the time and effort needed to develop DMPMCLI scripts. There is no prerequisite for users to know either the DMPMCLI scripting languge or the DMCLI scripting language to attend this seminar.

The first seminar will be held at our partners site, Emagine IT, in the Washington, DC area on July 15th and again in Denver, CO in the October timeframe. All attendees will receive a free CD (On-Site Attendees) or Zip file (WebEx Attendees) containing a sample of our "DMPMCLI Function Library". Onsite attendees will be given a free training session immediately following the seminar on the use of the sample DMPMCLI Function Library.

We expect this to be a popular seminar and we would like to have people register as soon as possible as we are limiting the WebEx attendee count to 25. If we have more than 25 people express an interest in attending via WebEx we may conduct additional sessions.
